Centre philosophy and methodology - a practical approach
Everybody knows that we all learn in different ways. Some students need to read and read and read to remember things, others need to write it out several times, while still others only seem to hear it once and they've got it.
Unlike most centres of learning Tlc accept this situation as their basis for teaching.
We are all different and we all learn in different ways, so at Tlc we teach the individual - not the group.
Unlike most centres of learning Tlc accept this situation as their basis for teaching.
We are all different and we do all learn in different ways, so at Tlc we teach the individuals (not the group as a whole) within a class.
Our philosophy is therefore "Learner Centred".
Tlc methodology revolves around the "spoken word," and all courses are conducted with this in mind.
We use what we call our "Learner centred approach" - which means that every trainee is treated as an individual, with individual learning needs and individual learning difficulties. As part of a group "YOU" the student take part in an organized course or class,
BUT
any problems or difficulties that may arise as a result of these studies are individual to you (not to the group) and must be analysed, understood and eliminated by "YOU" alone.
We do this on a 1 to 1 basis at the end of each class/day by looking at the area of difficulty, taking it apart, analysing the problem and putting it into other contexts to understand it. We then re-inforce it (with homework if necessary) with materials specific to this need.
In this way each member of the class is able to maintain the overall level of the group on an individual basis (everybody starts each lesson at the same level of understanding).
All Tlc courses are conducted with the following in mind.
- Practice of all four skills on a daily basis. Each lesson plan is designed to ensure that you use, and become competent, in "ALL" the skills.
- General Skills - Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing.
- Specific skills - The Spoken Word.
Because we concentrate on "the spoken word" this means that no matter what area of language you are using (the four skills), particular attention is paid to how "you" personally, speak the language. This helps to ensure that, irrespective of level, all students get the following right from the start:
- Use and accuracy of language.
- Fluency
- Production of quality sounds e.g. past tense, plurals etc.
- Production of quality sounds e.g. past tense, plurals etc.
- Ability to use stress, rhythm and intonation properly
- and at higher levels - To be able to use a variety of speech patterns, range of vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions.
